The Steptoe Cup for Outstanding Ticket Sales!
Who was Francis Steptoe? Francis Steptoe founded Ravensbourne Light Operatic Society in 1953, and was the Chairman for many years. He also performed the role of Musical Director for numerous RLOS productions, and conducted every performance given by the society from the start, in 1953, until the late 1960s. The cup will be awarded to the cast or crew member who sells the most tickets. It will be returned and awarded again for each subsequent production.
Flyers and Posters. Let's tell everyone about Singing in the Rain!
Watch out at rehearsals for the Singing in the Rain leaflet/poster map and commit to putting up posters or posting flyers in a street, a dance school, a workplace or collection of shops, near you! Every cast and crew member will be invited to highlight their chosen area on the map! Let's try to highlight the whole map, and let everyone know about Singing in the Rain!
RLOS - Over To You!
Which production do you think RLOS could do in the future? Email the committee, and make sure you write "Idea for Show" in the email subject.
How does the committee decide on a production for RLOS?
All ideas will be considered by the committee. The committee first checks whether the license is available for the time of year we want to perform the production. Many shows are not available to amateur groups; any shows which are being performed in London (or even NYC!), or are on a UK tour, are not generally available. We also check whether it has been performed locally recently or around the time we are planning to perform it. The suitability of the show for RLOS members, and the potential audience interest is considered - saleability of a show is vital if we are to continue putting on high quality productions! Then, we check that scenery and costumes would be available for the show at the right time. And finally, we establish if our chosen venue is available, and ensure we have a production team!
